10 Best Paleo Snacks
Just because you are eating a healthy Paleo diet, doesn’t mean you can’t have delicious snacks. Actually, it’s even more important to have healing snacks when you are on a healthy eating journey! Here’s my list of the 10 best paleo snacks.
1. Beet Hummus
I follow a Paleo diet, but I do eat chickpeas. There’s a big debate over whether chickpeas are truly Paleo. If you stay away from beans and legumes, then this may not be for you. But, let me tell you, this will heal you and make you happy. This creamy delicious spread literally takes 5 minutes to make. Make a batch, pack it into small containers, and keep them in your fridge. Grab one when you want a little snack at home or take one to the office. The beets will give you energy and are great for your blood and circulation, and the chickpeas will boost your mood.
2. Wild Zora Meat & Veggie Bars
These delicious soft little jerky-like bars come in perfect handy little sealed pouches. They’re made with whole foods and will give you some extra between-meal healthy protein. This one’s a no-brainer — they fit right into your purse, a lunchbox, or your jacket pocket… and… yum!
3. Pumpkin Peanut Butter Fudge
Got 5 minutes? Whip this up, store it in the freezer, and whenever you need a little pick-me-up, you’ve got one. This fudge is filled with superfoods… it’s got goji berries for longevity and maca root for energy and hormonal balance.
4. The World’s Best Nut Butter
The title of this recipe is not an exaggeration. This really is the world’s best nut butter. And, yes, it’s great with celery or paleo crackers… but right off the spoon is the way to go… yum!
5. Custom Trail Mix
In my house, this is the snack we grab when we go to the movies. Yeah… we are those people. The ones who sneak food into the movies. I urge you to do the same — it’s delicious, easily customizable, and you can keep it in little packets in your pantry. Here’s a list of my favorites that you can mix and match any way you like:
- raw cashews
- raw walnuts
- brazil nuts
- pistachio nuts
- goji berries
- unsweetened dried tart cherries
- sprouted pumpkin seeds
- raw sunflower seeds
- my favorite paleo protein bars, cut into small cubes (I love Bulletproof Collagen Bars and Rx Bars)
- raw cacao nibs
- naturally sweetened carob chip
- unsweetened dried fruit, cut into small bits
6. Paleo Protein Bars
Find some bars that have only real food ingredients. I mentioned my 2 favorites above in Number 5, but pick what you like. And have one only when you are not at home. So, these bars are meant for the times when you are out and you need a snack. If you are home, you can surely do better than a bar… hmmm… unless you make homemade bars…. yup another post coming…
7. Fried Plantains
Yes, I said fried! But fried in coconut oil. Heat up some coconut oil, thinly slice plantains and fry them until they are crisp. Plantains are good for your heart and your digestion… and the crunch will make you happy.
8. Beet Chips
Beet chips taste as good when you bake them as when you fry them… so pick your (healthy) poison. You can fry them in coconut oil, or line a few sheet pans with parchment paper, thinly slice your beets on a mandolin, lay them out in a single layer, spray them with a little olive oil and carefully bake them until they are crisp. Sprinkle them with sea salt as soon as they come out of the oven or fryer. These beauties will keep you healthy and young.
9. Half An Avocado Drizzled With Hot Sauce
Best. Snack. Ever. Slice your avocado in half. Remove the pit (or put the side with the pit back in the fridge). Drizzle the avocado with a generous amount of your favorite hot sauce and some sea salt. Eat it right out of the shell with a spoon. The healthy fat will boost your energy, help your skin, and give you brain power. 10. Turmeric Latte
Sometimes there’s nothing better than having a hot beverage when you are in the mood for a snack. More often than not, it’s more satisfying than anything else you would choose. This turmeric latte is so satisfying and it will help reduce your inflammation.
