1. Mushrooms

See this pic? This creamy iced drink is Mushroom Superfood Iced Chocolate and it is made with longevity mushrooms. When I talk about mushrooms here, I don’t mean the traditional shrooms you get in the supermarket. I mean reishi, cordyceps, lion’s mane, and chaga. These amazing medicinal mushrooms now come in powders, in teas, in capsules, and in tablets.

Chaga mushrooms are a longevity superfood. I use a chaga mushroom extract powder that makes it easy to add this immune-system-boosting mushroom my drinks and recipes. There’s a lot of research being done on the power of chaga right now and it’s possible ability to help fight cancer. It’s also good for your intestinal system and it can help calm your nerves.

Reishi is amazing. It’s a Chinese herb and a mushroom that acts as a superfood. In Chinese medicine, we use it for longevity support and we take it every day in many different forms. The Chinese name for reishi is Ling Zhi. It’s also known as Ganoderma. But, whatever you call it, it is like the rockstar of Chinese herbs. This medicinal mushroom calms the mind, reduces anxiety, relieves restlessness and boosts the immune system. Yup, it’s quite the multi-tasking shroom.

This recipe can be made with any superfood mushroom powder. A link for the chaga elixir powder I used for this is in the recipe, and I’m happy to help you find all of the others — just leave a comment below.

2. Blueberries

Yes, this is dessert. And yes, it is healing and will keep you looking and feeling as young and as healthy as you should feel. This Paleo Blueberry Cobbler is incredible — in taste and in super healing powers.

Blueberries are filled with antioxidants and have been shown to help fight cancer, diabetes, heart attacks and strokes. In some circles, they are known as “longevity berries.” They can also reduce inflammation in your body.

3. Black Sesame Seeds

These Sprouted Grain Chicken Cutlets are coated with a ton of superfoods and the chicken is deliciously crispy. Anytime you can add black sesame seeds (or any healthy seed) to anything you are cooking, do it!

Black sesame seeds are a Chinese herb (Hei Zhi Ma). Black foods, in Chinese medicine, are knows as longevity foods. This herb is good for so many things, including headaches, constipation, dizziness, and even helping with lactation. White sesame seeds also have many great nutritional benefits. They are also an anti-aging food. If you have backaches, hair thats graying way too fast, ringing in the ears, weak knees, blurry vision or general weakness, go for the sesame seeds; just sprinkle them on everything. Long ago in China, sesame seeds were ground into honey to form a paste and was taken as a medicine to counter old-age and weakness.

This recipe is hands down the best entertaining recipe for a crowd — it can be served at room temperature and everyone loves it!

4. Beets

In Chinese medicine, we know that many illnesses and conditions in the body are caused because the body is not making good quality blood. Beets help the body make high quality blood. Beets are great for energy. They increase athletic performance. They are good for your heart. They help ward of cancer. Need I say more? And, as an added benefit, they just make everything look beautiful — I mean, just look at the color of this beet sweet potato soup!

Now I use beets whenever I can. For this Beet Sweet Potato Soup, there’s no beet preparation involved except peeling them and cutting them into chunks. Easy peasy. Sometimes I roast them. Sometimes I ferment them. Sometimes I slice them really thin. And, don’t even get me started on beet powder…

5. Collagen

turmeric latte

Collagen is my number one longevity food recommendation. It comes in the form of a powder and you can add it to anything. This is one of the things I tell most of my clients to take every single day.

Collagen strengthens bones and muscles, keeps your joints healthy, improves flexibility and concentration, and helps heal your digestive system. It also keeps you looking youthful.

This creamy Pumpkin Turmeric Latte is just one delicious way to get your collagen in — and it can’t help but put a smile on your face!

6. Raw Cacao

Raw cacao is a superfood. It is packed with magnesium, iron, zinc and other minerals. Not only is it packed with health benefits, but it actually has properties that help the body absorb nutrients better and it’s filled with antioxidants. Cacao can actually be translated as “food of the gods”… Raw cacao can help lower blood pressure, promote healthy heart function, improve digestion, and may even help increase the libido.

This delicious Raw Chocolate Pomegranate Tart is the best dessert you will ever have. It’s easy to make, it’s healing to eat, and it’s a sure crowd pleaser.

7. Avocados

homemade simple guacamole

Yes, guacamole is good for you! Make my ultra clean and healing Homemade Simple Guacamole recipe and you will be helping yourself look and feel younger and healthier.

Avocados are one of my favorite foods, both for their health benefits and because they taste great. In Chinese medicine, some practitioners recommend avocados to raise the sperm count. I like them because they are good for anemia, dry skin, palpitations, constipation, and hot flashes due to menopause.

And, after you have scooped the flesh out of your avocado skin, be sure to save the skins so you can flip them inside out and rub them on your face. I’m not kidding — this is great for your skin!

8. Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

Creamy Apple Cider Vinegar Chicken

When raw apple cider vinegar started to pop up everywhere and we started to realize how amazing it’s healing capabilities are, everyone I know, including myself, started doing shots or spoonfuls of this elixir. Then, my mind started thinking outside of the box…

If we can eat a spoonful of this, why can’t we cook with it?

We can! This Creamy Apple Cider Vinegar Chicken recipe is awesome. Really — try it. You will be surprised at how much you will love it. And you will feel awesome!

Raw apple cider vinegar is one of the most amazing ingredients available today. My husband and I really do take a big spoon of it mixed with a bit of water every day along with our other supplements. It helps you maintain a healthy alkaline level in your body, detoxifies the liver, and is good for your heart. This vinegar helps intestinal function, much the way probiotics do. It also acts as an antacid and can help break down mucous in the body.

9. Garlic

cauliflower chickpea soup

Garlic is amazing in its antiviral and antibacterial capabilities. Garlic is actually a Chinese herb (Da Suan). It’s used to kill toxins and parasites and also to reduce swelling in the body. It’s what I call a great “A” herb: anesthetic, antibacterial, anti fungal, antioxidant, antiviral, etc….

When I feel like I’m getting sick with a cold, I immediately make a raw garlic concoction in my blender and it knocks the virus right out of my system. I’m happy to share this with you but I need to ask you a few questions first, so just sign up for a free phone consultation with me so we can chat. You’re going to love this one!

The soup pictured above is one of my favorites. This recipe for Cauliflower Chickpea Soup calls for 5 garlic cloves, but honestly, I’ve used as many as 12 cloves in this recipe when I cook it for my family and friends — how many will you use?

10. Bone Broth

paleo chicken pot pie soup

Bone broth is filled with bone marrow and essential fatty acids — these things promote optimal brain health. It also contains glycine, which is an amino acid that helps with memory, concentration, stress, and focus.  You can make your own bone broth, but you don’t have to anymore. Bone broth is now available in tons of markets. It’s sold in boxes just like chicken or vegetable broth. The glucosamine in bone broth can reduce inflammation and strengthen the bones. It’s also great for your skin, hair, and nails. This is a great thing to use for a quick soup base, or to just sip on during the day. Sometimes I’ll have a hot cup of bone broth first thing in the morning for a quick healing pick me up.

Any soup that you make can be made with bone broth in place of regular broth or stock. Try this Paleo Chicken Pot Pie Soup and make it with bone broth… yum!
